Kinesiology

Kinesiology is about the identification of stressful stimuli and the restoration of a harmonious and balanced flow of the body’s energy. It supports awareness and understanding which helps to resolve core problems and releases stuck energy that can interfere with various aspects of your life. Kinesiology is a natural and gentle approach – but still very powerful – to support your own innate ability to heal and to promote health, wellbeing and vitality.

Kinesiology was founded by Dr George Goodheart, an American Chiropractor in 1964 who used muscle testing to evaluate what he was doing chiropractically. Dr Goodheart and his team expanded on the application of muscle testing which then became known as Applied Kinesiology. Dr John Thie recognized the need to educate the public and developed an educational program which became known as Touch For Health.

  • A wholistic approach to identify the cause of an imbalance

The Approach

Kinesiology is based on a combination of Eastern & Western principles, anchored in ancient traditions. It uses a wholistic approach to identify the cause of an imbalance rather making a diagnosis. It accesses the answers within you.

The Tools

One main tool that distinguishes Kinesiology from other natural therapies is muscle testing. Muscle testing is used as a ‘biofeedback system’ and is simply based on the brain being linked to muscles via nerves and the brain’s reaction to stimuli and stress. Through the testing and monitoring of muscles a kinesiologist bypasses conscious thinking and accesses its own intelligence system (subconscious layers) which holds all our memories, information about physical, emotional, mental and energetic status, and also determines our muscle tension. An ‘unlocking’ muscle test can therefore be an indicator that a stimulus has a negative effect on your being.

By using this ‘biofeedback system’ the kinesiologist is able to communicate with your body and identify underlying causes, going to the root of an issue. Causes could be of nutritional, emotional, structural, psychological, energetic or even spiritual nature or something as simple as an ‘attitude’ or a forgotten or suppressed memory. Through muscle testing also priority techniques can be identified. These techniques could include: Chinese Meridian & Indian Chakra System, Acupressure Points, Stress Release Techniques, Nutritional advice, Homeopathic Remedies, Vibrational Essences (eg. Bachflowers), Essential Oils, Crystals… to name but a few. By accessing the inner intelligence system via muscle feedback, kinesiology can be quite specific and we are able to quickly determine the best strategy to restore the body’s balance.

Energy Basics

Anything that your brain registers as a stimulus can cause stress in the body and lead to a biochemical reaction (eg emotions, increased gland function). The brain switches on its coping mechanisms and sends out signals to the body to adjust. This could mean that certain body functions are more active than others (eg. Adrenaline in stress situations) and the energy (also known as ‘Chi’ in Chinese Medicine, qi or life force energy) flows more specifically to certain areas of the body and less to others. Some of them might be over- and some of them under-energized. These reactions (stimuli) can therefore be reflected in your body – be it organs, muscles, bones or chakras.

If going on over prolonged periods the body’s ability to cope can decrease, certain areas of the body might become neglected and weaker (eg immune system). If changes are not introduced it could even reach a stage where the body no longer has the capability to handle those imbalances / stresses and illness might be the result.
